Wow. My bike's better than your bike.

A few more details....I need a helmet. I guess I need biking shorts, though I'm reluctant. I need to get the bike from Chico to Cuyamaca.

Cool! Do you plan to get clip-in pedals/ shoes for extra pedaling power? Might be useful for a ride your size...

Helmet, and gloves. Do you want a rack and some sort of bag? Backpacks kinda suck on long rides. Yeah, we'll put some spd's on there, he needs 'em. Maybe some platforms for off-road, too? I'm including some fat tires, too.

Or even one of those SPD/ platform combos? That way he doesn't have to change pedals depending on his ride.

Man, it's uuuugly. But, beauty lies in utility!

Helmet and gloves are only for Crash survivors.

There are bets on the table here at work if I'll actually do the ride. I hope I can get it down here soon before it gets too cold outside

If neither of us can travel either way in a timely manner, I could always box it up. I could just make it a two day blaze down and back. On my vacation all I did was drive twelve hours a day anyway.

Box it, ship it.

Probably a push with gas prices.

We're trying to get Jim down so the kids can see him again and he can see the guestroom hollowed out of the ground under the house...

Besides, driving is much more therapeutic than stuffing a bike in a box. Cost of gas isn't an issue for me. It's like when candy bars went from a dime to a quarter, which probably singlehandedly caused the recession in the '70's. We grumbled but payed. Now, since I don't need gas like I needed candy bars, I don't even grumble. So, driving down it is. If you give me a rough idea of the volume of stuff you need to carry i'll choose a bag. And tell me your shoe size, unless you'd rather we take care of some small details in a local shop. You'll want to find one probably anyway.

For a good SD bike shop, let me recommend trying Zumwalt's Bicycle Center. They're really great.

Their website is

Ive heard of Zumwalt's. It has a good rep, so if it's conveniently located, give it a look. The shop I work in, and the Chico market, is different,
